The Royal Hawaiian: A Luxury Experience

Writer: Donny Marco BarnesDonny Marco Barnes

This post is going to be a review of my multiple stays at the 5 star luxury resort The Royal Hawaiian in Oahu. It is one of my favorite hotels in the whole world and I wanted to share my experience of staying there.

Mailani tower, View from Waikiki Beach

Coral, salmon, bubblegum, magenta, rose. Shades of pink decorate this huge Hawaiian resort. The main building is very traditional in way of architecture but the rooms and interior decor has updated and while it keeps classical elements it has a contemporary, luxury feel to it which is very nice actually.

The hotel is made up of the original building and the Mailani Tower which is the more modern tower block to the right. The two pieces of architecture may seem like a strange contrast but I quite like it!

The resort has three different restaurants/bars/cafes. These are Surf Lanai, Mai Tai Bar and Azure. I dined at the Mai Tai Bar quite a few times for dinner and it was really good. I didn't have dinner at Azure because I went out a lot to other restaurants in the area but if I was to return I would maybe try it out. For breakfast the first time I stayed there I didn't have breakfast at Surf Lanai and instead I bought stuff from the ABC Stores and Pete's Tea and Coffee and ate it on the balcony but on my second visit I went for breakfast there everyday and I didn't regret it one bit. I tried the pancakes, bagels, fruit and cooked breakfast options. the menu has changed a lot since I last went so sadly many of those options have changed but I still remember how delicious each one tasted.

Royal Hawaiian Pool, 10th Floor View

My one criticism of the hotel is the tiny pool. The image above shows the view from the 10th floor in Mailani tower and as you can see the pool is rather small! Of course you have the beautiful but crowded Waikiki beach and plenty of other things to do but a larger pool would have been nice. I do remember having a really lovely seafood pizza with prawns and scallops by the pool though so I could still give it 5 stars!

Okay that's it for this post. If you have any questions about The Royal Hawaiian Resort and my experience don't hesitate to ask and thank you for reading.
