Cruising Aboard Pampano

Writer: Donny Marco BarnesDonny Marco Barnes

Thinking back to my August trip to the beautiful island of Tenerife I found myself reliving the wonderful yacht trip I took aboard the boat Pampano. We sailed down from the harbor along the coast in between Tenerife and La Gomera and it was one of the most incredible boat trips I've ever taken. We sailed further out into the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera and the captain of our boat, Carlos, informed us about the pilot whales that we would hopefully see. It was fascinating to learn about the life of a pilot whale and how they find food.

Once we had been out on the sea for a bit me and Juliana went to sit on the front of the yacht. As you can see in the picture above there are flat sunbeds on the front of the boat which we sat on. While we were sitting at the front of the yacht we got the chance to see a pod of pilot whales.

Pilot Whales, Pampano

Their silver streamlined bodies cruised through the sea of blue coming right up close to the boat. I seem to remember that there were at least fourteen of them!

After we had seen the whales and took some pictures the captain increased the speed and we went flying across the water like a flying fish skimming the surface. My hat almost fell off! The captain took us to a local bay. Sadly the name has slipped from my mind but it was very beautiful. We then jumped off the boat and went swimming, admiring all of the amazing fish that weaved through the maze of coral on the sea floor. Then after a quick lunch of a baguette and cava we went for a final swim before setting back off across the ocean towards the harbor. We sailed past our hotel Bahia Del Duque and back to the harbor. It had been a fantastic trip.
